Your Singapore Holiday

Itinerary Suggestion: Day 1

Singapore is a small and efficient country, so it is easy to move about. Here, we like to suggest and itinerary for your reference.  You may want to base on that to plan your Singapore holiday.

The entire itinerary can be implemented on the public transport system alone.

To get yourself more ready for the planning, you may want to first read about our articles on 'Getting Around Singapore'.  In addition, refer to the transportation map of Singapore whenever necessary.  Since the places of interest are well known in Singpore, you may also grab a city map from the hotel counter to ensure that you are on-track when going on the tour.

Day 1 Morning: Singapore River Walk

Financial centre, Singapore River & Esplanade

Tour the central financial district and the historical Civic District of Singapore.   Take an MRT train ride to Raffles Place (Raffles Place MRT Station, EW14/NS26).  It is in the heart of the financial district.  Feel the hassle and bustle of the area.

Walk along Singapore River.   Historically, the city of Singapore initially grew around the port so the river mouth became the centre of trade, commerce and finance in the 1800s and early 1900s.  Appreciate the grandeur of the British colonial architecture, especially Asian Civilisation Museum, Victoria Theatre and Concert Hall, The Arts House at the Old Parliament, the Old Supreme Court and The Fullerton Hotel.

Cross over to One Fullerton to see the Singapore’s skyline with new developments surrounding the Marina Bay. Do not miss the Merlion. It is the iconic mythical creature of Singapore -- the ‘lion city’. Cross the Esplanade Bridge to The Esplanade – Theatres on the Bay. This is Singapore’s best known performing Arts centre where many renowned performances take place.
There are many eateries around the area. If you feel like it, take a restaurant of your choice and have your lunch there.

Afternoon: Shopping Spree

Orchard Road

Having taken a break in the Esplanade, take the underpass and walk along the City Link Mall -- a 60,000 square-foot shopping street built totally underground.   The mall is linked directly to Raffles City, a major shopping center.

From Raffles City, you may take a train from City Hall MRT Station (EW13/NS25) to Orchard Road (Orchard MRT Station, NS22).   Orchard Road is among the world's best known shopping street.  It will not disappoint you.  There are many popular shopping centres there.  The newest among them are:  ION Orchard,  Orchard Central and Mandarin Gallery.  Other well-known shopping centers include Far East Plaza, Shaw House, Tangs, Wisma Atria, Ngee Ann City, Paragon, The Heeren, The Centrepoint and Plaza Singapura.  If you intend to go further, you may go to Bugis Street.  Take an MRT train from either Orchard MRT Station (NS22) or Somerset MRT Station (NS23) or Dhoby Ghaut MRT Station (NS24/NE6) and alight at Bugis Station (EW12).  In addition to modern shopping centers, you can also find street hawkers there selling affordable and trendy goods.

Night Safari

Night Safari/Night Spots

Depending on you preference, you may do two things at night.

First, visit the award-winning Night Safari – the world’s first night-time wildlife park (Ang Mo Kio MRT Station, NS16; change to SBS Bus No. 138 or Choa Chu Kang MRT Station, NS4; change to bus no. 927). You may choose to walk the walking trail, or the tram rides.

Second, have a leisure dinner. It does not need to be in a fine-dinning restaurant. You would have found many good eating places when you did your shopping in the afternoon. There are many 24-hour coffee houses that offer a range of local fare, from Chinese chicken rice, Malay satay to Indian curry. After that, take a glimpse of the night life of Singapore. You may head down to the world-reowned Zouk, Singapore’s iconic dance club. (Orchard MRT Station, NS22; change to Bus No. 16 or 123 from Orchard Boulevard).

Other interesting night spots can be found on this site.

Here end day 1 of your Singapore vacations.
